Abramovich put the Blues up for sale amid growing scrutiny of his finances following Russia’s war with Ukraine, all due to the tycoon’s close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. despite the fact that Abramovich has always denied this.

Sanctions have been introduced against a number of wealthy Russian individuals, which include the seizure of their assets abroad. But Johnson said there are many factors to consider before deciding to sanction Abramovich.

Roman Abramovich has not yet been officially sanctioned by the UK.

The British Prime Minister told foreign press: “None of us want to live in a country where the state can take your house away without having the burden of proof of legal proceedings. So we do. I have to do it right.”

Earlier, Labor MP Chris Bryant questioned why Abramovich had yet to be punished. Speaking earlier this week in the House of Commons, Bryant also called on Alisher Usmanov – who has ties to Arsenal and Everton – to face sanctions. He later forfeited a 17 million euro mansion in Sardinia.
