Nasser Al-Khelaifi has revealed that the Super League founders lied about not inviting Paris Saint-Germain to the tournament last year.

I could have taken a check for 400 million euros. The Super League invited me (and PSG to join the project – PV) ,” the PSG leader revealed on the BBC. “Then when I said no, they announced again that the league didn’t invite PSG. That speaks to their nature.”

Khelaifi’s comments are said to be aimed at the three heads of Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and his associates still intend to establish the Super League. As president of the European Clubs Association (ECA), Mr Khelaifi is among those opposed to the Super League project.

The relationship between Mr. Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Florentino Perez has not been good for the past few years.

The Qatari businessman also revealed more about his relationship with the head of Real Madrid. “Florentino spoke to me when the two teams met in the Champions League. He said that the two sides could discuss the Super League,” the PSG president revealed. “I told him that if they keep doing things behind my back, I’m not interested.”

Despite threats from UEFA or other football leaders in Europe, the Super League project was never dead. Earlier this month, Gazzetta revealed the three leaders of Juventus, Barca and Real Madrid put forward a new proposal for the Super League to replace the Champions League.

The Super League will no longer be a closed tournament with a certain number of clubs as planned last year. Instead, this tournament will open up opportunities for many other clubs in Europe.

In the new project, the number of clubs that will participate can be up to 40 with two divisions, 20 teams each with the same promotion and relegation format. In the plan in 2021, only 12 top European clubs participate in the Super League. The Super League organizers then confirmed that they did not invite PSG.
