Princeton Tops Fourth Straight Ivy League Field Hockey Preseason Poll

PRINCETON, N.J. – Princeton was selected to win its 27th Ivy League title in the 2021 Field Hockey Preseason Poll. The Tigers, which advanced to the NCAA Final Four for the third time in four years in 2019, topped the preseason poll for the fourth-straight year with 125 points and 13-of-16 first-place votes.

Princeton welcomes back a trio of All-Ivy performers in 2019 Rookie of the Year Sammie Popper, midfielder Hannah Davey and forward Ali McCarthy.

Princeton earned the nod over Harvard, which finished second with 112 points and three first-place votes. The Tigers and Crimson have combined to win the last nine Ivy League titles. Harvard, which 13-4 and 6-1 in League place a year ago with two wins over top-25 teams, will rely heavily on its experienced senior class of midfielder Rachel Greenwood, defender Hannah Pearce and midfielder Mimi Tarrant.

No. 13 Princeton and No. 19 Harvard were ranked among the top-25 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches’ Preseason Poll.

Penn tallied 83 points to finish third in the preseason ledger and will look to contend for its first Ivy League title since 2004. A trio of Second-Team All-Ivy selections are set to take the field for the Quakers in midfielder Gracyn Banks, forward Madison Jiranek and defender Elita Van Staden.

Cornell was picked fourth with 74 total points, while Yale (67), Columbia (64), Brown (29) and Dartmouth (22) rounded out the poll. The 2021 campaign gets underway Labor Day weekend with all eight teams in action.
